Scientists in Argentina and the US have been carrying out preliminary research to discover whether there is a significant link between the hours spent using Wi-Fi on laptops and sperm damage. The study, published in the Fertility and Sterility journal has deduced that ejaculated sperm exposed to a wireless internet connection over a period of four hours showed significant damage.
However in the UK, the Health Protection Agency have stated that while Wi-Fi users are subjected to and absorb the radio signals emitted, they are of low power. The HPA go on to say that at this point in time there is no consistent evidence to suggest that radio signals transmitted by Wi-Fi affects the health of the general population.
A UK fertility expert suggests that while ejaculated sperm may suffer damage following exposure to Wi-Fi, the study is not conclusive, as outside the body sperm is not protected by the tissues, cells and fluids that it is ordinarily stored by prior to ejaculation.
